Searle是當代還活著的哲學家中最具重要性的人之一﹐他所提出的幾個理論都成為廣被討論的話題﹐例如﹐ 說話行為論(speech act
theory)、人工智慧的中文屋論證(Chinese room
argument)、其對心物問題的分析、以及其所提出的社會本體論觀點等等。 |

課程主題 |
1.
The mind-body problem. What is the mind-body
problem? What are the main theories to deal with this problem? What does
Searle think about this? In this subject, you have to know materialism, physicalism, identity theory, behaviorism, functionalism,
substance dualism, property dualism, expansionism, and eliminative
materialism. 2.
Can computers think? In this
subject you have to know how computer works, what Turing machine is, what
Turing Test is, and what Chinese Room Argument is. 3.
Cognitive science What is cognitive science?
How it may let us know something about our cognition? How computer science,
neuroscience, linguistics, psychology, philosophy and etc. can be helpful to
let us know more about human cognition. 4.
The structure of action In this subject, you have to
know Searle’s theory of action, which includes what action is, how it is
related to and different from behavior and how it is related to his theories
of mind and artificial intelligence. 5.
The freedom of the will We believe human beings have free will and we also believe
that the natural science is a true description of the universe, which
includes human beings. But these two do not seem compatible to each other.
